The Power of Intentions: Connect with Yourself and Live on Purpose

What do you Want?

This question holds immense power, yet how often do we truly present it to ourselves? If you've ever felt like you're just going through the motions in life, constantly busy but without real progress, you're not alone.

I've experienced those moments of feeling unfulfilled and lost as if I'm disconnected from my own desires. But I've discovered a transformative practice that can help us take an active role in creating the life we want to live: setting intentions.

Merriam-Webster defines intention as "what one intends to accomplish or attain." It's about consciously choosing the direction of our thoughts and actions, and it can have a profound impact on our lives.

Throughout the month of May, I invite you to join me in a 30-day Happiness Habit challenge on social media. Together, let's keep exploring the power of intentions, affirm ourselves, start each day with purpose, and end each day with gratitude. I'm excited to hear your thoughts and experiences along the way.

In the first two weeks of May, I shared some insights on the benefits of journaling and affirmations. Now, I want to delve into the transformative power of setting intentions. If you missed those posts, you can find them here.

Intentions are like affirmations, but they go one step further. They involve focusing on the positive while setting a clear intention to achieve a specific goal or desire. By doing this, we actively participate in shaping our own reality.

To quote Oprah "Intention is one with cause and effect. Intention determines the outcome. And if you're stuck and not moving forward, you have to check the thought and the action that created the circumstance." Setting intentions allows us to connect with our deepest desires and take decisive action toward their fulfillment.

But how do we set intentions effectively? Here are a few tips to guide you on this transformative journey:

  • Get clear on what you want: Take the time to truly contemplate what you want for your life. Whether it's a more balanced lifestyle, improved well-being, or a deeper sense of purpose, defining your desires is the first step.

  • Phrase your intention in the present tense: Instead of saying "I want to be healthier," embrace the power of "I am healthy and vibrant." This simple shift places your intention in the present moment, making it feel more tangible and achievable.

  • Make your intention positive: Rather than focusing on what you don't want, shift your attention to what you do want. For example, replace "I don't want to be stressed" with "I am calm and centered." This positive framing empowers your intention.

  • Visualize your intention: Take a few moments each day to vividly visualize yourself having already achieved your intention. See yourself thriving in a new job, feeling radiantly healthy and strong, or living a purpose-driven life. Immerse yourself in the experience of your desired reality.

Combining intentions with positive affirmations creates a powerful force for change in our lives. But if you're seeking a more concrete approach, consider incorporating SMART goals into your intention-setting journey. SMART goals are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. They provide a framework for breaking down your intentions into actionable steps and tracking your progress along the way.

For further inspiration, I highly recommend watching Vanessa Wideski's TED Talk, "The Power of Intention." It's a thought-provoking exploration of how intentions shape our lives and the incredible possibilities they unlock.
