Mental Fitness: Your Burnout Buster
Hi friends,
I'm dedicating this blog post specifically to nurses. Not to say that if you're feeling burnt out, you can't benefit from this information, but if you are a nurse or know a nurse, please send them the link to this post or direct them my way.
Happy September!
If you're new here, we're currently in week 4 of my 12-week Revive and Thrive program. This week, we're diving into the game-changer: mental fitness.
Mental Fitness Unveiled
Mental fitness, a relatively recent concept, highlights the importance of nurturing our mental health, much like caring for our physical well-being. Think of it as a gym for your brain, not an IQ test.
What Mental Fitness Is
Mental fitness keeps your brain and emotions in top form. It's about slowing down, finding your center, and staying present. It's a bit like a workout regimen – consistency is key.
The Mental Gym
Picture it as your mind's personal workout space, with exercises like the "Stress-busting Samba" (meditation) and the "Focused Flex" (mindfulness). These routines are transformative.
September: The Perfect Start Something New
Why now? September, the bridge between summer and fall, brings a desire for structure and routine.
A Message to Nurses
As a nurse at the bedside for 18 years, I understand firsthand some of those feelings of overwhelm. I know there are a handful of you out there experiencing severe symptoms of burnout, and maybe you don't even know it. Your days off are recovery days, routines are impossible if you work night shifts. I have been the charge nurse on the unit that is bursting at the seams, the ER wants to send you patients, the clinic wants to send you patients, the ICU is ready to send you their patient, you have simultaneous emergencies going on, someone just fainted at the lobby, and no one has had breaks. Not to mention, you have 2 night shift nurses who stayed over and are on their second 16-hour shift. I have been there. Does this resonate? Are your days off spent on the couch just trying to numb what you just experienced? Calm and zen feel like a far-off place. Like you might have actually rolled your eyes if you made it this far. I get you. I know.
The Reality of Mental Fitness
Let's be clear, it's not all sunshine. Happiness is a habit, and habits need practice.
